Botox, Fillers and Dermaroller Therapy
Botox®, Dermal Fillers and Dermaroller Therapy complement each other in treatments of lines, wrinkles and rejuvinating the skin:-
- Botox is Allergan's trademark for Botulinum though most people call it Botox like they call a vacuum cleaner a Hoover! Botulinum is a muscle relaxing injecton that is used for the dynamic lines on the face, mostly aound the eyes and forehead.
- Dermal Fillers include Radiesse and Restylane. These are injected into the skin to add body and smooth out the static lines and wrinkles that are there all the time.
- Dermaroller Therapy is the latest and most efficient way of applying the well-established science of stimulating natural collagen production by the skin's own cells by using dermal microneedling. This both rejuvinates the skin and treats lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and tummy stretch-marks. Previously this has been done at far greater expense with lasers.

BOTULINUM relaxes the muscles that cause the dynamic wrinkles. It is used mostly around the eyes and forehead to help wipe away the worry and frown lines , and the crow's feet lines which form when our facial muscle contract. These wrinkles can make us appear to be frowning, even when we are not, because these muscles are still partially active even when relaxed. After treatment people will say "you are looking so young".
Botulinum is also a very effective treatment for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and there is now very exciting evidence that it helps with Migraine Headaches
The art of treating you with Botulinum is to give just the right amount. Too little and you won't see much, too much and your face will look frozen. This is why you should be treated by professionals who have received specialist postgraduate training. We believe that subtlety is the key - to avoid too much so that your face looks frozen. We will see you after 2 weeks for a follow-up, and top-up the originally treated areas if indicated, usually without charge. Our aim is that you should be happy with the effect.
Botulinum begins to take effect after 24 hours but takes 5-10 days to be fully effective. During this time your face will gradually look younger and fresher. The effects last about 3-6 months, after which you can have further top-ups. We have payment plans to manage the costs of the top-ups
DERMAL FILLERS work in two ways. Firstly they add body to the skin to fill the static wrinkles that come with age, and secondly they stimulate the natural processes that create collagen within the skin. Static Wrinkles are the ones that remain whether you are expressing yourself with your facial muscles or not.
We use 2 types of dermal filler.
Radiesse is made from Calcium Hydroxyapatite and is a filler and collagen stimulant lasting 12-18 months. It is particularly effective in treating the deeper lines and creases such as the Naso-Labial Folds.
Restylane is made from a natural substance called HA, normally found in much higher quantities in young skin. HA works by retaining water in the skin to keep it young and fresh. As we get older the concentrations fall making the skin appear stretched and loose, so we use injections of HA called Restylane, made in a very pure form from a non-animal process, to replace what has been lost through age and lasts for 6-9 months.
- Restylane and Radiesse both have their separate qualities.
- Radiesse is particularly good for Naso-Labial folds from the nose to the corner of the mouth, though Restylane is used for these too.
- Restylane Lipp is a special formulation that is the treatment of choice for the lips, especially for enhancement of the Vermillion Border. Standard Restylane can also be used to reduce the wrinkles between the eyebrows that make us look as though we're frowning.
- They both plump up the skin, fill the wrinkles lines and folds, and make you look younger again.
Like Botulinum we have payment plans to spread the cost. The effect is immediate, and you will leave the consulting room delighted at how much younger you look.
DERMAROLLER THERAPY stimulates natural collagen production by using many small precision-manufactured needles mounted on a roller which pierce the skin to a depth of 1.5mm. The therapy is pain-free because we first anaesthetise the skin with anaesthetic cream. The roller stimulates the cells that produce the collagen to move to the site and the natural latticework of collagen fibres is renewed and increased for the next 6 weeks after the treatment. If necessary the treatment can then be repeated, though you will see a significant improvement with only one treatment.
The photos above give a good idea of the effectiveness of the Dermaroller, and are of a lady with severe acne scarring to the face before and after 2 treatments. You can see the great difference that the stimulation of natural collagen production has made to the quality of the skin. It is equally as effective on the fine lines and wrinkles, especially for areas that are difficult or impossible to treat with fillers, such bags under the eyes
The needle marks in the skin close up immediately after the treatment and all you experience is an immediate redness which settles almost completely within 2 hours though there may be a slight residual redness for another 24 hours. For most people the redness after the initial 2 hours is so little that they are happy to go out in company. There is thus none of the down time associated with Fraxal lasers, and indeed none of the dangers since it is easy to burn the skin with lasers causing more harm than good. Indeed there is a comparative trial going in Germany at the moment, and the responses are showing that Dermaroller is just as effective as laser.
Dermaroller Therapy is good for:-

- Scar reduction on the face, including from acne and chickenpox, and stretchmark reduction on the tummy after childbirth
